Why do "entry-level" roles want 3+ years

And i just noticed four postings this week for “junior” analysts asking 3–5 years with the exact tools we use (Power BI + SQL), salary capped at $58k. Is this a weird market signal or are companies hedging? Has anyone landed one without the full years — what did you emphasize?

At $58k, apply anyway — ‘3–5 years’ is wishlist; show a Power BI+SQL case study.

I landed a “junior” analyst role with about 1 year by sending a 90‑second Loom walking through a Power BI report I built and pasting the key SQL in the email — it beat my thin resume. At $58k they’re hedging, so prove you can ship by recreating one of their dashboards from public data and call out refresh cadence, DAX, and joins, then ask for a 15‑min screen. @OP want a quick script for that outreach?

Ask the recruiter if ‘3–5 years’ is flexible; offer a DAX+SQL mini dashboard tied to their KPIs; otherwise pass.
