I used to work a data entry gig, and it was mostly just a monotonous parade of spreadsheets and forms. But one day, I hit the jackpot. I was inputting responses from a survey, and one of the questions asked for the respondent’s email address.
The person had handwritten their response in neat, clear script. But instead of an email address, they had simply written: “no thank you.”
I just sat there for a moment, completely captivated. I couldn’t help but picture them filling out the form. They get to the email section, pause, and then with a firm, decisive hand, write “no thank you,” as if they were turning down an offer for a free car. The polite refusal in a sea of data fields was just perfect.
From that day on, whenever I had a tough form to fill out, I just imagined myself writing “no thank you” in the empty space. It made the whole thing a little more bearable.
